You Need to Get References Now
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008It’s really important that you get your list of references (professional, academic, and personal) together before you start your career or internship search.
Why?
Because sometimes just the process of asking people you know for references can take longer than you’ve bargained for.
Plus, it will make you look like you have your act together when a prospective employer springs the news on you that they need your list of references as soon as possible and you can proudly whip-out your list right then and there! Just think how together will you feel then!
And, if that’s not reason enough for you to start pulling your list together, maybe this will get your attention …
At some point in the interview process you will be asked for your references on an official job application. And guess what – they’ll want information you probably won’t know off the top of your head like your references’ titles, phone numbers, addresses, etc.
And what you don’t want is to find yourself having to ask a prospective employer if you can get them your completed application later because – gulp – you’re not prepared!
So, take my advice, and get started building your list of references today!
